Use these 4 tips to help your site rise up the Google rankings

July 16, 2021

As we come out the other side of the global pandemic, we believe it’s never too late to make sure that your website can be found right at the top of Google searches.

Searches on Google get more and more popular by the day, which is to be expected when everyone has been stuck inside for 18 months!

Below are our top four things you should check for to make sure you can get the best possible rankings in Google:

  1. Make Sure Your Website is Mobile Friendly

This point gets more vital by the day. It has been true for years now, the vast majority of searches are completed via mobile device nowadays. If your website is not optimised for mobile first, Google will not show you in the results – this could be a large portion of your market that you’re missing out on!

Tip: While Mobile optimisation is key – don’t ignore the desktop! Mobile may have overtaken in searches but desktop can still drive plenty of traffic to your site.

  1. Ensure you keep fresh, quality content flowing.

This is a piece of advice that, honestly, we know we keep giving you, but it really needs to be hammered home! Google likes websites that are updated with fresh, quality content regularly.

As well as relevant news / blog posts, make sure the pages on your site have their own relevant, keyword rich content. Make sure it flows naturally & reads well – this is important for Google!

Tip: If the content you’re writing is an answer to a question, make sure you answer succinctly and as early into the content as possible. Once your site is trusted your content may well be used as a Direct Answer in Google search results.

  1. Make sure the metadata on your pages is optimised correctly.

Metadata is an important element, because not only are the titles used as a ranking factor, but your metadata is really your chance to hook your visitors.

The meta title is the place you can make sure your important keywords are featured. This shows up on Google, so make sure any phrases used in the title really are relevant to your site and page they are on.

For the meta description, your key goal here is to get an enticing and accurate view of the page involved. This is your chance to really draw in your potential visitors, so it is really important that this is written well.

Tip: Remember there are limits to characters! The limits are: 70 characters for the title & up to 320 for the description.

  1. Backlinks Still Have Value – When Used Correctly!

While Google still often mention that focusing on backlinks isn’t so necessary, the truth is that when used correctly they are still a very useful way to gain trust and authority with Google.

The most important thing to remember with links is that they need to be natural and of good quality. Avoid links from dodgy sites and try not to spam blog posts with them.

Tip: domains like .edu and .gov are incredibly highly trusted and would be hugely valued as backlinks.
