How to Submit a New Website to Google

August 4, 2011

Many people ask how to submit a new website or an updated URL to Google for inclusion in the search engine results, at Total SEO we believe the best method is to let the search engines find you naturally through links you have built to the site, this method is more natural than submitting to the search engines directly and we believe this method has the potential to give the site more authority and prominence within the search results.

However, for those who want to submit their new website to Google, a new feature called “Fetch as Googlebot” has recently been released, the feature is found in Webmaster Tools and after a URL is submitted the Googlebot will crawl the site, which usually happens within a day of the submission being made.

The new feature promises to help in a number of situations, not just for making Google aware of a new website,  Google says “You can also submit URLs that are already indexed in order to refresh them, say if you’ve updated some key content for the event you’re hosting this weekend and want to make sure we see it in time. It could also help if you’ve accidentally published information that you didn’t mean to, and want to update our cached version after you’ve removed the information from your site.”

This feature will undoubtedly have a use, but we recommend trying to allow Google to find pages naturally wherever possible, if you need advice about how to get the search engines to find your website get in touch with us at Total SEO & Marketing on 01252 329160.
